According to an announcement by Twilio, Twilio’s and SendGrid’s boards of directors approved the deal for acquisition of the email API platform SendGrid by Twilio. Twilio is used by more than 40,000 companies worldwide such as Airbnb and Netflix. Twilio provides software developers and services with added capabilities such as voice, video, chat and messaging into their applications. Twilio is a communication company that a...llows other companies to use many channels for communication with their clients. So adding email API as a “vital communication channel” is an important part of building a leading “single, best-in-class platform”, according to Twilio co-founder and CEO Jeff Lawson. The possible amount of the agreement is $2 billion. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2019. This is an example of growing by buying an existing business with sharing platform capabilities and merger of consumer bases. Twilio clients after the deal completion will engage their consumers by all of the now-existing channels for communication: send any type of messages, ads, notifications, video or voice content and chat with them.
