Google has announced its intention to acquire Looker. Looker is a business intelligence platform which provides customers with analytics and migration tools. Google Cloud had a partnership with Looker before the acquisition developed. They share over 350 customers, including Buzzfeed, Hearst, and Yahoo! The estimated cost of the deal is $2.6 billion. Google Cloud chief Thomas Kurian says that the deeper integration of the ...Looker team and services into the Google Cloud platform allows the company to provide customers with multi-cloud functionality and its ability to bring together data from SaaS applications such as Salesforce, Marketo, and Zendesk, as well as traditional data sources. He adds that that empowers companies to create a cohesive layer built on any cloud database, as well as on other public clouds and in on-premise data centers. This news coincides with other similar acquisitions: Tableau by Salesforce and PowerAI by Microsoft. It shows that major players see a future in better integration of big data, AI-powered analytic tools and visualisation tools to offer clients the complete service in collecting, keeping and converting data into predictions and key business decisions. Prediction correctness becomes much more important in cases of a limited number of communications with consumers (for instance, 10 per year according to GDPR in Europe). AI tools and machine learning algorithms are a routine part of everyday activity now.
