The Boston Consulting Group estimates that more than 80 million people in the US engage with augmented reality (AR) on a monthly basis. This number is expected to grow to more than 120 million by 2021 AR enables people to connect with businesses and their products in new ways, as Facebook’s blog post says (). Facebook plans to roll out AR in its News Feed this year to use a smart phone camera for a try-on experience. Michael Kors …was the first brand to test AR ads in the News Feed, which allows people to try on a pair of sunglasses. Later, other brands in the fashion industry were testing the same AR features, like Sephora’s lipstick trying.
Seventy-nine percent of consumers prefer to watch video ads than to read text, which is why Facebook has launched a Video Creation Kit for advertisers to make the process of video ad creation easier and faster, especially optimised for a mobile platform. The Video Creation Kit will roll out for all advertisers in August on all networks (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Audience Network). AR and video ads will help advertisers to engage more users and inspire them for purchase.
